Sometimes, you just have to take a break from reviewing all the serious stuff that you had to read for your summer book bingo challenge and talk about something absolutely delightful.
Let me tell you about The Transitive Properties of Cheese by Ann LeBlanc.
The description of this book is “A cheese cave. A sun. A million problems.” Well, that’s not a whole lot to go on, but who doesn’t want to read a sci-fi book about a cheese cave?
I feel like you’ll have the most fun going into this book if you know very little about it, like I did. Let it unfold and surprise you. Go along for the ride.
But if you need more encouragement than that, here’s a couple more things you should know about The Transitive Properties of Cheese. First, it is very, very queer. Second, as of today I have read 113 books so far this year and it is one of my absolute favorites. Plus it’s a novella, so honestly, what are you out if you give it a try?
And aren’t you tired of just reading the same books that everyone talks about on BookTube, BookTok, or Bookstagram? Don’t you want to read a hidden gem? I requested this in Libby because I saw one person mention it on Bluesky and it caught my attention. Out of the SIX libraries I have cards at, only Queer Liberation Library purchased a copy. Maybe you can convince your library to pick up this small press gem and other readers will discover it, too.
CWs and TWs: Transphobia, sexual content, strong language, sci-fi violence (including gun violence).
Source and Format: As mentioned above, I borrowed the ebook from Queer Liberation Library.
Reading Challenge Prompts
Nook & Cranny (Card 2): FREE SPACE. For those cards where it isn’t clear whether the free space is “read what you want” or “consider this square already filled”, I use them as an excuse to review a book that I really want to talk about that doesn’t quite fit any other square. And I really wanted to talk about this book.
