Last week, the Adult Summer Reading Book Bingo co-hosted by Seattle Arts & Lectures began, and thus we have reached the time of year when I become the most obsessed with my book bingo challenges. This is the one that started it all, and the one that I have the most friends also participating in, so I really get into helping people find books for prompts, and working my way to an early blackout.
This year’s challenge runs from May 22nd to September 3rd. I’m already off to a good start, because both books that I was reading already counted towards squares, and I had a lot of books waiting on my shelves that fit other squares. Happily, this includes books that I’ve had since before January 1st, 2024, so several of my Book Bingo reads will also generate donations for Palestinian families. Make sure to keep an eye out on my upcoming reviews to see which books count, and consider if you can make a donation of your own.
If you want to join the SAL/SPL challenge, you can find details and print your card here. In addition to the English-language adult challenge I’m doing, there are also cards for English-language challenges for kids and (for the first time!) teens, and a Spanish-language adult challenge. I love that there are so many options, and I really like the idea of the whole family reading together all summer long. By the way, there’s a prompt on the teen card for “A book you think adults should read” and if any of you have a teen that does this challenge, I’m dying to know what they pick.
Are you doing Book Bingo this year? Do you need ideas for any of the squares? Let me know in the comments!
PS: I’ve held off on posting this for a few days, hoping SPL would recover from their cyber attack, but many of their online services are still unavailable and have been since the 25th. YIKES! Give them some love. It’s gotta be a really stressful time for everyone working in that library system right now.
